A base with the taxiway of the Wright-Patterson base in 1:72 scale sets a model on the airfield concrete of an American base in Ohio.

The artwork captures the taxiway of the Wright-Patterson US Air Force base in Ohio. It is not a kit or an accessory for a model but a base on which a finished machine stands. The model thereby stops hanging in a void and starts to read like a photograph from service.
Wright-Patterson came about after the Second World War through the merger of two older airfields, Wright Field and Patterson Field, and it takes its name from the Wright brothers and from a local test pilot. On the grounds of the base itself lies the meadow where the Wright brothers tested their first controllable machines. Today it is one of the most important places in the US Air Force altogether: the materiel command, research laboratories and also a vast museum that is among the largest aviation collections in the world are based here. The taxiways of such a base have characteristically divided concrete with expansion joints and a distinct yellow centerline.
On a long concrete area the rule of thirds works: a model placed off center looks more natural in a shot than one in the middle. Leave a piece of open area behind the machine in the direction of travel; the eye will fill the takeoff run in. And if you shoot with a flash, angle it away from the surface, because a smooth area readily returns a harsh highlight.
