The Baku was a Soviet aviation cruiser, that is a vessel that combined an extensive flight deck with the armament and superstructure of a cruiser. It was a distinctive path the Soviet Navy took instead of classic aircraft carriers of the Western cut. The ship was later renamed and, after conversion, went on serving in another navy. Her deck is a rewarding setting for a modeler: it gives a helicopter or a carrier aircraft the scale and context a bare shelf will not offer.
The base is formed by an acrylic board 3 mm thick measuring 280 x 180 mm, that is 28 x 18 cm, with a color motif of the deck and a weight of 170 g. The board does not bend under a model and thanks to its weight it will stay in place on a shelf. The model is simply stood on it; it does not need gluing or altering. The motif is in 1:72 scale, so the area corresponds to the spot for one helicopter or a smaller aircraft.
The base suits displaying a finished model in a cabinet, on a shelf and at a competition, and it replaces building a small diorama. It will be appreciated above all by builders of Soviet carrier hardware who want to place a model into the setting it belongs to. The content of the package is the base only; the model, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
