Cut masks for the cockpit framing of the 1:48 A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft, for the outer and the inner side of the canopy. The cut matches the Hobby Boss kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Fairchild Republic designed the A-10 the other way round from the usual practice: first came the seven-barrel rotary cannon of thirty millimeters, and only around it was the aircraft built. The whole layout follows from that, from the offset nose gear through the titanium bathtub protecting the pilot to the pair of engines hung high above the fuselage, where neither sand nor a ricocheting fragment can reach. The low speed that fighter crews laugh at is an advantage in support of ground units, because the crew has time to find the target and come back to it. The nickname Warthog was given to the machine by its own airmen, and in the end it took the name as its own.
The parts follow the division of the large bubble canopy and the edging of the fixed section behind the seat. They are applied to both sides of the clear part, so after spraying the frame looks solid rather than like frosted glass. The enclosed circles serve to cover the wheel hubs, so that the tire keeps its original shade and the transition between the two colors is sharp.
Before application it is enough to wipe the glazing with a damp cloth and let it dry. The film is pressed down from the center toward the edges so that no air is trapped under it, and after spraying it is removed before the paint has fully hardened. Should a part overhang slightly at a more complicated transition, it can be trimmed with a sharp tip right on the model. A gray attack aircraft also has large areas with no division, so the masked cockpit becomes the most conspicuous detail of the whole model.
