1:48 A-10A Thunderbolt II is an Eduard masking set for a model of the American ground-attack aircraft built for close air support.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of die-cut stencils from Eduard for the Fairchild Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II model in 1:48 scale. The stencils follow the shape of the glazing on that particular model, so the sprayed frames come out even and without the fraying that arises when tape is cut by hand with a knife. That also does away with lengthy measuring and trying out of individual strips.
The A-10A grew around the seven-barrel 30 mm GAU-8 cannon, which takes up a substantial part of the fuselage. The pilot is protected by a welded titanium tub and the key systems are duplicated so the aircraft can take a hit over the battlefield. The letter A marks the original single-seat version without the later digital avionics. Its low speed lets it work close to the ground and return over the same area again and again.
The large flat windscreen invites a quick coat, but that is exactly where bleed shows most. Run a fingernail over the edge through a soft cloth and spray from the edge inward. With gray camouflage shades a lighter base helps, so that the top color covers even in a thin layer. Mix the paint thinner than usual; a thick coat builds up under the edge and cracks when the mask comes off.
