About product

1:48 A-10C — a 3D printed colored interior on decal paper (Italeri)

Quinta Studio interior sets are printed on decal paper and are applied like a decal. On the A-10C version that is particularly useful: the cockpit is no longer just a collection of round dials but a combination of analog instruments and screens. The printing manages to draw out the content of a display, symbols and colors included, which with a brush would mean an hour of fiddling with an uncertain result. The set is cut for the Italeri kit in 1:48 scale; Quinta releases the A-10C for kits from other manufacturers too, and the individual sets are not interchangeable.

The real subject

The A-10C is the modernized standard of the A-10 attack aircraft. The fundamental change compared with the earlier machines is precisely the cockpit: multifunction displays and a new control panel joined the analog layout, so the pilot works with a digital interface. The rest of the cockpit stayed recognizable — it is still fairly cramped, with prominent side consoles and massive framing. A model with the canopy open therefore offers plenty of view inside, and the difference between bare plastic and a fitted-out panel is visible at first glance.

How the set is applied

The final step matters more on this set than elsewhere. Once the decals have dried, the cockpit is usually oversprayed with matte varnish, so that the sheen of the decal film disappears and the surface looks painted. Keep a decal softener and a setting solution well away, as they would attack the printed resin. The instrument glass and the faces of the displays, however, are not to be matte — it is precisely the gloss that gives them the look of glass. Mask them, therefore, or after taking the sheen off go over them in spots with a drop of gloss varnish applied with the tip of a brush. The same gloss suits the round dials as well. Without that, even a superbly stuck-down panel looks flat.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the modernized A-10C in 1:48 from the stated kit.
  • Modelers who want a cockpit with legible displays.
  • Those who build a model with the canopy open and the boarding ladder out.

It is an accessory, not a kit. The basic model, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not intended for it. The cockpit of the C version is digitalized and the layout differs.

Yes, but leave the instrument glass and the displays glossy. Either mask them, or go over them in spots with gloss varnish after taking the sheen off.

The molded relief of the instruments is sanded smooth, otherwise the 3D decal will not sit down.
