This item is not an aircraft model but a detail set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, from its PRINT range. It replaces the airbrakes at the wingtips, which on the A-10 are solved unusually: the whole aileron opens into an upper and a lower half, and once split it looks so striking that it becomes the main recognition feature of the model. In a plastic kit these surfaces tend to be molded closed, and opening them without replacement parts means extensive cutting.
The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is an American attack aircraft for close air support, built around a seven-barrel rotary cannon and powered by a pair of General Electric TF34 turbofan engines mounted high on the sides of the rear fuselage. The A-10C version is the upgraded form of the machine with a digital cockpit and the ability to deliver precision-guided munitions. The split ailerons at the wingtips also serve as airbrakes and on the ground they are often open.
First decide whether you want the brakes open, because it is hard to go back. The original surfaces are cut away and the edges sanded wet. Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry; they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Spray the inner sides of the brakes and treat them with a wash before you seat them, because once glued you cannot reach them. The split surfaces are fragile, so add them at the very end of the build.
This is an accessory set, not an aircraft kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
