A set from the Czech manufacturer Aires combining resin landing gear wheels and painting masks for the model of the A-1J Skyraider ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. The castings offer a well-defined tread pattern and faithful hubs, while the enclosed masks take the most tedious part of the job off the modeler's hands, the clean separation of the hub color from the tire. The result is a perfect landing gear in a minimum of time.
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was an American single-engined piston ground-attack aircraft which, despite the arrival of jets, excelled in Vietnam thanks to an enormous weapons load and long endurance over the target. The A-1J version was one of the last production forms of the type; the machines flew with the US Navy and the US Air Force and made their name escorting rescue missions. The rugged landing gear with its substantial wheels is clearly visible on a model.
Wash the castings, cut off the casting blocks and sand a flat spot where the tire meets the ground. Stick the masks onto the painted base and spray the second color: once they are lifted you have a sharp dividing line between the hub and the tire. Bond with super glue and finish with a light dusting of pigments.
This is an accessory set: the model of the airplane, the glue and the paints are not included in the package.
