A detail accessory in resin for models of the Douglas A-26 Invader in 1:48 scale. This is not a kit of an airplane but a replacement for the part that closes the front of the engine nacelle around the propeller shaft. The reduction gear lowers the speed transmitted from the engine to the propeller, and its casing forms the characteristic narrowing between the face of the engine and the spinner.
This part of the nacelle is on the line of sight from the front of the model and its outline markedly affects whether the model has the right look. On plastic parts the shape tends to be divided by a seam and the transitional curve simplified, because it has to respect the direction of removal from the mold. A resin casting is poured in one piece, so it holds a smooth shape and a sharper edge around the circumference. The number of parts and the rest of the contents of the package are stated on the box.
Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the seating surface by wet sanding on a flat support, so that the part seats without a gap and is not tilted. Before gluing, always try dry how it follows the outline of the nacelle and check that the opening for the propeller shaft comes out on the axis. It is glued with super glue; even out small gaps after gluing with a thin layer of putty and sand them over with fine paper, so that the transition disappears under the clear coat. In color the part is usually dealt with together with the nacelle; polished metal surfaces are better left to the end, because they are hard to mask and to overspray.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
