Aires 1:48 A-26B/C (B-26B/C) Invader – wheels and paint masks, early version, diamond pattern is a resin set of landing gear wheels with masks for painting. An accessory for a kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin set of wheels in 1:48 scale complemented by paint masks, intended for a model of the Douglas A-26 Invader aircraft in the B and C versions (later designated B-26B and B-26C). This item presents the early form of the wheels with a diamond tread pattern. It is not a kit – the wheels are swapped for the plastic parts from the base model.
The masks deal with the most tedious step in painting wheels: the boundary between the tire and the hub. They are stuck onto the casting, the hub is sprayed over and once they are removed a cleanly separated transition stays, without overruns. On resin wheels that pays off twice over, because a casting has a sharper edge than a plastic part and any touching up with a brush would show on the smooth surface.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that they are rid of mold release agent. On wheels the casting block tends to be on the mating surface or on the inner side of the hub – cut it off with a saw and sand the surface back wet, otherwise the wheel will not seat square to the gear leg. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Do not paint the tire pure black, as a dark gray shade reads more faithfully in this scale; the hubs are painted according to the particular machine. Stick the masks onto perfectly dried paint and pull them off shortly after spraying, while the new coat is fresh.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted, and paints and glue are not included in the package.
