This is not an aircraft model but an accessory. The resin set in 1:48 scale from CMK replaces the control surfaces of a model with separate castings which, unlike the production plastic parts, can be deflected into a working position. According to its name the set is made for the early variants of the Mustang: the A-36 Apache attack aircraft and the P-51 and P-51A fighters. Which surfaces the set contains and in what number is stated on the packaging of the set.
A parked aircraft rarely has its control surfaces in the neutral position: the rudders deflect naturally and the flaps tend to be down. Production kits, however, most often have these surfaces molded in one piece with the wing or the tail, so the model looks static. Separate resin surfaces solve that: resin holds a thin trailing profile and a sharp edge that cannot be produced in injection-molded plastic. The result is a model that looks livelier and technically more convincing at a glance. On early Mustangs that applies to the characteristic shapes of the tail surfaces as well.
Cutting into the plastic is required: the original surfaces have to be separated from the wing or the tail with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and the cut sanded carefully. Work slowly and leave a margin on the cut that you then level out by sanding. Wash the resin parts in warm water with detergent first, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand wet with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Before gluing, decide on the angle of deflection and check that it looks natural from the front and from above. Apply primer before painting, as resin holds paint badly without it.
