A set of shaped masking stencils for the cockpit frames of a model of the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk in the B, C and L versions, 1:48 scale. The name gives masks for the inner and the outer side of the glazing and names the Hasegawa kit as what the set is meant for.
The Skyhawk is an American carrier attack aircraft designed as a deliberately small and simple machine. The wing came out so small that it did not have to fold for parking on deck, which was an exception among the carrier aircraft of its day. The B and C versions belong to the early forms, and the designation L is carried by a later conversion of older machines. The cockpit is set high on a short fuselage and the frames of the glazing are prominent in the silhouette, so on a finished model nothing can hide them.
The frames around the windscreen are narrow and angled. Tape cut by hand goes into them awkwardly and an overrun edge shows at once. A pre-cut stencil keeps the same width of frame on both sides of the cockpit and does not call for running a blade over the clear part.
Wash and degrease the clear part. Apply the inner masks before you seat the canopy on the fuselage, otherwise you will no longer reach them. Apply the interior shade before the exterior finish. Spray the paint square to the surface and in thin coats, so that it does not creep under the edge, and take the masks off while the coat has not yet fully cured.
The package contains masking stencils. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
