This set from Quinta Studio brings a colored printed cockpit interior for the A-6A on decal paper. It is not a kit of the airplane but an accessory for a plastic model: it lifts the instrument panel, the side consoles and the rest of the cockpit equipment. The elements are already colored and in relief, so coloring the small instruments with a brush falls away. The decals are shaped for the parts of the Kinetic kit.
The Grumman A-6 Intruder was a carrier-based attack aircraft of the US Navy, built for precise strikes in any weather and at night. The crew of two sat side by side, which was unusual on American combat aircraft, and the right-hand seat belonged to the navigator and weapons systems operator. The A-6A version was the first production variant and carried electronic equipment that was extensive for its day, thanks to which the aircraft found its target even without visual contact. The Intruders made their name in operations over Southeast Asia, where they carried large loads of bombs from carrier decks. The wide cockpit with two stations side by side is rewarding for a modeler, because it is easy to see once the model is built.
The base under the individual elements should be smooth and free of dust; it usually pays to level the raised relief of the plastic instrument panel carefully, so that the colored layer beds down over its whole area. Work with sharp tweezers and in good light, because the elements are small and easy to overlook. Proceed part by part rather than in whole strips, as that makes the position far easier to align. Let the finished cockpit dry through before you close the fuselage halves together.
