The model renders an object of the Czechoslovak heavy fortifications listed as K-Am-S 42 with the period name Trigonometr. It comes from the Czech association ROP o.s., which specializes in models of the Czechoslovak border fortifications and runs a continuous numbered series of dozens of objects in this scale. In 1:1000 scale a finished piece comes out at a few centimeters, so it is a collector's model and a building element for a landscape model, not an extensive kit.
Infantry casemates were built in the second half of the thirties as reinforced concrete links in a continuous defensive line. They were set into the ground, the front wall was the thickest and had no embrasures, while the firing openings pointed to the flanks, where they covered the approaches of the neighboring objects. Besides a number within its construction sector, each object also carried a name used in the documentation; Trigonometr refers to the period habit of naming structures after prominent points in the surroundings, survey points among them.
Well-handled concrete makes the whole impression. Use a lighter gray base, let a dark wash run into the joints and the embrasures and then lift the edges gently with a dry brush. Color patches and strong effects look overdone at this scale, so rather hold back. If the model comes with a groundwork base, reach for static grass and fine pigments; a dusted dry pigment handles the transition between growth and soil better than a brush. Handle the small parts with tweezers and apply the glue with a thin piece of wire.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
