A photo-etched supplementary set for a model of the Japanese A6M5 carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. The thin metal parts refine the places where plastic runs into its limits.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched part comes about by the shape being cut through thin metal sheet by chemical means. That produces a thickness that injected plastic is not up to. On a model the difference is visible everywhere the material is to be genuinely thin on the real subject too, that is on sharp edges, meshes, small loops and latches. The set is intended for a model of the A6M5 in 1:48 scale; the range of parts and the kit it is tuned to are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The Mitsubishi A6M5 is the late and most numerously built version of the Japanese carrier fighter of the Second World War. Against the earlier versions it received a shorter wing with rounded tips and individual exhaust stacks led out along the sides of the fuselage. The machine was built with an emphasis on agility and on range and remained the main Japanese carrier fighter for most of the war.
Take the features off with a sharp blade on a hard surface, as scissors will bend the metal. Make the bends on a straight edge or in a bending tool, in one movement if possible, because repeated bending breaks the material. They are glued with super glue applied in a minute amount; the tip of a toothpick suits for dispensing. Degrease the parts before painting and cover them with a base coat, or the finish will rub off the smooth metal at the first handling.
It aims at the modeler for whom the contents of the box are no longer enough and who wants to refine the places everyone looks at. Work with photo-etched parts asks for patience, good tweezers and plenty of light. The package holds a photo-etched fret; the kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
