The fifty-second variant of the Zero came about as an answer to the rising speed of its American opponents. The wing was given shorter rounded tips, a stronger skin because of the greater permitted load in a dive, and the exhausts were split from one collector into separate pipes that added thrust. It was the most numerously built version of the whole type and it was this one that bore the main weight of the fighting over the Marianas and the Philippines.
The Zero has long glazing divided into a fixed windscreen, a sliding section and a fixed rear part. If you want to display the cockpit open, separate the corresponding pieces of film right at the start and spray the sliding section on its own, away from the fuselage. The frames then look the same from both sides and nothing blocks access to the lower edge, where paint otherwise holds worst.
The package consists of a pair of masks for the canopy, that is the outer and the inner side, and one set of masks for the national insignia. The film is cut to shape and self-adhesive; the kit and paints do not belong with it.
A sprayed circle on the wing has no glossy border of the kind the carrier film of a decal leaves behind, and so it fits better into a matte surface. Lift the mask off while the finish is still fresh; the edge will then stay sharp. Japanese machines carried the circle on both surfaces of the wing and on the sides of the fuselage, so the same stencil comes into play in several places on the airframe. Plan in advance which cut piece will end up where, because the sizes differ from one another only a little and are easy to mix up.
