Cut self-adhesive films for the landing gear bays of the Japanese A6M5 Model 52 fighter in 1:48 scale. According to the name they are shaped for the Fine Molds kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Model 52 came in 1943 as an attempt to draw something more out of an already aging design. The wing was shortened and received rounded tips without folding sections, and the exhaust pipework was split into separate stacks pointing diagonally aft, so that their thrust would add a few kilometers per hour. It was the most numerously built version of the whole Reisen family, and it was precisely with it that the difference between the inside of the bays and the surrounding skin began to be most conspicuous.
The openings for the main wheels have a different shade inside than the surface of the wing, and the boundary between them runs along a curve that is traced with tape only with great self-denial. The shaped films follow that curve exactly, including the inner surfaces of the doors. A sharp transition arises without running under and without the frayed edges left behind by cutting tape with scissors.
The film holds best on a perfectly cured base. A fresh acrylic film stretches under the adhesive and tears away with it when the mask is removed, so it pays to wait a day. Degreasing the part before painting is just as important with thin cuts as it is for the paint itself.
The cut matches 1:48 scale. This is the masks alone: the kit, paints and decals do not belong with them.
