The set 1:48 A6M5 Zero seatbelts STEEL by Eduard brings the seat belts of the Japanese carrier fighter A6M5, executed in color photo-etched steel.
Responsibility details are not available.
The belts of a seat are among the first things you notice in an open cockpit, and in plastic kits they tend either to be suggested on the seat or to be missing altogether. The designation STEEL means that Eduard makes this set from steel foil: once bent it holds its shape and behaves more naturally than a softer material, so it can be waved the way a fabric belt would really hang. The execution is in color, so it is not necessary to paint the belts.
The A6M5 was the peak production version of a famous type that at the beginning of the war in the Pacific surprised Allied pilots with its range and its agility alike. The inside of the cockpit was austere and functional, with a minimum of protection for the pilot, because every extra kilogram would have taken away from performance. It is precisely for that reason that properly executed belts stand out so markedly on a model: they contrast with the uniform surface of the seat and give the pilot's station scale.
Separate the belts with a scalpel right at the edge of the fret, so that no burr is left. Shape them carefully with tweezers or the end of a round tool, ideally over a soft surface, and make the folds gentle rather than sharp. Attach them with a minute amount of cyanoacrylate glue or of glue for clear parts, which leaves time to fine-tune the position. Let the ends hang loosely over the edge of the seat, as belts lined up exactly look unnatural.
