The model 1:48 ADM-20 Quail captures an American air-launched decoy from the period of the Cold War in 1:48 scale. It is a standalone item, that is a model of a single small vehicle, not a kit of the bomber from which the Quail was released. Thanks to the small dimensions of the real subject the model stays compact even in this relatively large scale, so it works well on a shelf, in a display case, on a stand or as part of a scene with aircraft.
The ADM-20 Quail was a small unmanned vehicle with a jet engine and a delta-shaped wing, which was carried folded inside the launch aircraft and flew on its own once released. Its task was to imitate the radar image of the carrier, and so to multiply the number of targets the other side saw on its screens. The vehicle was originally listed under the designation GAM-72 and received the designation ADM-20 after the unification of American nomenclature. It stayed in the armament until the beginning of the 1970s, when more modern vehicles replaced it.
Before the build, wash and degrease the parts, so that the primer holds. Cut any manufacturing residues, that is casting blocks or supports, off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surface with a file and sandpaper. Glue the small parts with super glue; with the joints of larger surfaces it pays off to secure them with pins of wire. Apply a primer before painting and only then the main shade on top of it, so that the surface holds. For displaying the model without a landing gear a stand or a metal rod sunk into the fuselage is practical.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
