An engine section for the AH-64D Apache in 1:48 scale lets you expose the powerplant space on the side of the fuselage on a model of this attack helicopter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item concerns the powerplant part of the model only. It replaces the simplified plastic nacelles and lets you build the machine with the panels folded open, that is in the state in which a visitor to an airfield meets it under maintenance. You are buying one area of the detailing work, not the model as a whole.
The Apache is powered by a pair of turboshaft engines housed in nacelles on both sides of the fuselage, above the stub wings with their pylons. Setting them away from the centerline makes access easier for the technicians and separates the hot parts from the cabin and from the load on the pylons. The exhaust ducts of the Apache versions went through reworking to reduce the heat signature and are among the most interesting shapes on the whole machine. This is exactly where everyone who builds helicopters looks.
An exposed powerplant space gives away every inaccuracy, so dry-fit the assembly and fill the gaps before the paint comes. Spray the interior surfaces in advance; then only pick the finished assembly out lightly and dirty it down to the degree of wear you want to show. Leave the metallic highlights for the very end, otherwise you will dull them with further coats.
The package carries one area of the detailing work; the whole machine you obtain separately.
