This set brings four faithfully cast AIM-9M and AIM-9L Sidewinder short-range missiles in 1:48 scale. It is an aftermarket accessory in resin completed with photo-etched parts and decals for the color bands and markings. The set contains neither an aircraft model nor fuselage pylons; it serves to enrich the external stores of fighter models.
The AIM-9 Sidewinder is an American infrared-guided short-range air-to-air missile and one of the most widespread in the world. The AIM-9L version brought all-aspect capability, allowing attacks from the forward hemisphere as well, while the later AIM-9M improved resistance to jamming and countermeasures. A good many Western fighters carried both versions from the 1970s onwards.
First wash the resin parts free of mold release agent residue, cut the casting blocks off carefully and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Protect your airways while sanding. A primer coat is advisable; the missiles themselves are usually light gray with colored identification bands, which the enclosed decals make easier.
This is a detail set, not a complete model. The aircraft model itself, the glue and the paints are not included in the package.
