Eduard 1:48 AN/ALQ-71(V)-2 ECM pod is a resin accessory: an electronic countermeasures pod for models of American combat aircraft. It is not an aircraft kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This add-on set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard brings the AN/ALQ-71(V)-2 electronic countermeasures pod in 1:48 scale. It is an armament, or rather an equipment, accessory to a model, not a model of an aircraft. The resin casting offers sharper surface detail than can be drawn out of injection-molded plastic, above all the cooling intakes, the antennas and the fine engraving of the panel lines.
Jamming pods of the AN/ALQ-71 series were part of the equipment of American combat aircraft at the time of the Vietnam War. They were carried on stations under the fuselage or under the wing, and their job was to jam the surveillance and guidance radars of air defenses. The versions marked in parentheses differed in their internal equipment and in the range of bands they jammed; from the outside they are told apart above all by the arrangement of the antennas on the body of the pod. Models of American aircraft from that period therefore only look authentic with a jamming pod fitted.
Start by washing the casting in lukewarm soapy water and removing the casting blocks with a fine saw; sand with respiratory protection. The pod is glued with cyanoacrylate to the appropriate pylon, as cement for plastic has no effect on resin. Lay down a primer before painting, which will also reveal any remaining sanding marks. Jamming pods tended to be painted simply, so the final impression comes above all from clean sharp engraving, a restrained panel wash and fine chipping on the edges of the casings. Before you glue the part on, check dry that the pylon on the model matches the geometry of the pod.
An add-on set, not a model of an aircraft. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
