A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masking templates from the Czech manufacturer Peewit for the Avia B-135 model in 1:48 scale from Special Hobby. It is not a kit; it is an accessory to a model that you obtain separately. The set deals with the two things that take the most time when spraying and go wrong most often: the cockpit glazing and the landing gear bays.

What the set solves

• Masks for the glazing: templates shaped exactly to the frames of the canopy and the windscreen. The slow measuring and cutting of masking tape is no longer needed, and the frame edges are sharp and even.
• Plugs for the landing gear bays: they cover the open bays into which paint would otherwise fly while the underside of the airframe and the camouflage are sprayed. The bays then stay in the interior color and do not have to be laboriously repainted later.
• The masks are applied to a finished, degreased and well-cured base coat; it is a good idea to press the edges down with a toothpick.
• Once the paint has dried, take the mask off slowly and at a sharp angle back across the surface.

Which model it suits

The Avia B-135 was a Czechoslovak single-engine fighter of all-metal construction, which followed on from the B-35 type. It was built in series for the Bulgarian Air Force and was used above all in air defense. It is an attractive and not very common subject, which Special Hobby offers in 1:48, and it is for that kit that the set of masks is intended.
