A large injection-molded plastic kit of the British four-engine heavy bomber Avro Lancaster in 1:48 scale from Tamiya. The model makes it possible to build the B Mk.I or the B Mk.III version using parts for different propellers and other details. In this large scale it is an extensive model with a richly detailed interior. Check the actual package contents and the decal options against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The Lancaster was the most successful British heavy bomber of the Second World War and the backbone of the RAF night bomber force. It was powered by four liquid-cooled Rolls-Royce Merlin engines and could carry an exceptionally heavy bomb load including large-caliber bombs. The Mk.I and Mk.III versions differed practically only in where their Merlin engines were built; otherwise they were almost identical. The Lancaster became famous for, among other things, the raid on the German dams.
Given the size of the model, work in subassemblies. Paint and accentuate the interior, the bomb bay and the gun turrets before you close the fuselage. Glue the glazing with canopy glue. Typical schemes carried dark upper surfaces and a black underside for night operations; after a gloss coat and the decals, accentuate the panel lines with a wash and add fine wear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
