A detail set from the Czech maker Eduard in 1:48 scale, aimed at a single but very visible element of the cockpit: the crew harness. The Steel designation means the photo-etch is made of steel instead of the usual brass. Steel sheet is springier and keeps its shape after bending, so the belts look as if they were hanging loose over the seat and do not have to be laboriously shaped. The package is an accessory for a plastic kit and does not contain the model itself.
The Avro Lancaster was a British four-engine heavy bomber in service from 1942. The B.I version used Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engines and was the most numerous variant of the type. The aircraft was distinguished by a bomb bay running the whole length of the fuselage, twin vertical tail surfaces and an unarmored, fairly cramped cockpit in which details such as seat belts show to good effect — especially on models built with the glazing open.
Steel photo-etch is springier than brass, so hold the parts with tweezers when separating them from the fret, or they will fly off. Cut on a hard surface with a sharp scalpel. If the belts are color printed, do not overspray them — the printed part is glued straight on, ideally with a tiny drop of cyanoacrylate or of PVA wood glue, which gives more time to adjust the position. You get a natural look by bending the belt slightly and letting it fall freely over the edge of the seat; bend the buckles last.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model or a substitute for one. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
