A photo-etched bomb bay set for a model of the B-24D Liberator in 1:48 scale from the maker Eduard. An accessory for a plastic kit, not a model of the bomber in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit of an airplane but an add-on set of photo-etched metal parts aimed, according to the name, at the bomb bay of the four-engine B-24D Liberator bomber in 1:48 scale. On this type the bomb bay is a rewarding place for detailing, because once it is open the load-bearing structure, the racks and the inner walls of the space are visible, where injection-molded plastic offers only a simplified shape. It is made by Eduard, a Czech company from Obrnice near Most. Check the actual contents of the package and the number of parts on the box of the set.
The B-24D was an American heavy bomber with a high-mounted wing of high aspect ratio and twin vertical tail surfaces. The bomb bay took up a substantial part of the fuselage and was divided by a longitudinal beam that could be walked along. A characteristic solution was the bomb bay doors, which on opening rolled up the sides of the fuselage instead of swinging down in the usual way. It is exactly this space that the set opens up for modeling.
Work from the inside out, because the bomb bay is detailed before the fuselage is glued together. Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel and sand off the burrs. Bend longer straight parts in a bender, so that the edge is not wavy. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue or with a slow-setting epoxy, which gives more time for positioning. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a base coat. Pick out the inside of the bomb bay with a dark wash and a light drybrush, so that the load-bearing structure stands out.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
