About product

Double-sided masking set 1:48 B-26B-50 Invader (Art Scale)

A self-adhesive Art Scale masking set for a model of the Invader in 1:48 scale, supplied pre-cut to its final shape. The designation double-sided means that the masks are prepared for the outer and the inner side of the glazing. The inside of the framing can thus be sprayed in the interior shade and the outside in the covering finish of the fuselage, without touching anything in with a brush. That is exactly the difference from the single-sided variant of the same type. The set is an accessory for a kit; the model, paints and glue are not in the box.

Why double-sided masking

On a cockpit that is visible from inside as well, an untreated frame looks unfinished: transparent plastic shows through the clear part instead of the interior color. A double-sided set deals with that detail by spraying, that is, evenly and without brush marks.

The real subject

The Douglas Invader was a twin-engine all-metal attack bomber with piston radial engines. The version with a solid unglazed nose concentrated the gun armament in the forward fuselage and was intended against ground targets. The aircraft stayed in active service long after the Second World War and went through several modernizations; in modeling it is popular for the large glazed areas of the pilots cockpit and for its varied range of finishes.

Applying, spraying and lifting off

Stick the masks onto the inner side of the glazing first and spray the interior shade; only then deal with the outside, because the reverse order is hard to put right. Wash the part before applying them in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry freely. Seat each mask with tweezers precisely along the outline of the frame and press the edges down carefully with a blunt toothpick. Spray thin coats with enough of a pause between them; paint laid on all at once and heavily runs under. Take the masks off shortly after drying, pulling at an angle along the surface rather than straight up. Adhesive residue can be wiped off with a cotton bud dampened with water.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want the cockpit framing painted from inside and outside
  • Builders of models with a large glazed area, where the interior is clearly visible
  • Those who build for a display case and deal with details visible through the glazing
  • More experienced modelers working with an airbrush and two shades on one part

The box holds masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included.
