Die-cut films for the Japanese Nakajima B5N carrier-borne torpedo aircraft in 1:48 scale. They cover the long framed glazing from both sides and add stencils for spraying the national markings.
Responsibility details are not available.
At the time of its creation the carrier-borne B5N was a generation ahead: all-metal construction, retractable landing gear and wings folding for the hangar below deck. It could carry a torpedo or a bomb adapted from an artillery shell, and it was exactly these machines that launched the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941. The crew consisted of three men under a long glazing that stretches across the greater part of the fuselage decking and to this day is among the most conspicuous things on a model of this type. The Allied designation for this machine was Kate and it caught on under that name among modelers as well.
The red disc from a decal sheet has a tone of its own given by the printing, and it meets the paint you are building the model with only by chance. The difference strikes the eye above all when the same red appears somewhere else as well, for instance on a stripe or on a unit marking. Spraying through a stencil removes this problem completely, because the marking arises from the same bottle as the rest of the model. The harmony of the whole finish is then a matter of course, not a question of luck.
The die-cut pieces follow the framing of the glazing of a particular kit and some of the parts aim at the inner side, so the frame can be painted from inside before the fuselage is closed. The stencils of the national markings come in two sets. In the envelope you will find nothing but films; the shades and the model the modeler obtains himself. The films are removed only after the weathering is finished, so that pigment does not get under their edge.
