The set of masks 1:48 B5N Kate Nat. Ins. w/ white outline from Dead Design is for spraying national insignia traced by a white ring onto a model of the Nakajima torpedo bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
Masks prepared for spraying the Japanese national insignia onto a model of the carrier-borne torpedo bomber Nakajima B5N. The name specifies the version of the insignia with a white outline. On the Kate that is doubly useful, because the insignia sit on the extensive surfaces of the wing, where a decal has the most opportunities to lift on engraved lines and at the folding hinge. The set deals with spraying the insignia, and the Kate itself has to be built beforehand.
The Nakajima B5N entered service as a carrier-borne torpedo and level bomber with a crew of three and with folding wings that saved room in the hangar of an aircraft carrier. It was precisely these machines that carried torpedoes and modified bombs over Pearl Harbor, and in the following year they had a hand in the sinking of several American aircraft carriers in the fighting in the Pacific.
Extensive wings call for an even base, otherwise the white ring will be a different richness on each side. Spray the light color in several light passes, therefore, not all at once. Once the outline is uncovered it pays to go over the edge with a very fine abrasive, so that the transition between the colors does not stand out to the eye, and then to tie the whole together with a clear coat.
