The real subject

The BAC Lightning was a British interceptor with unusually arranged engines stacked one above the other and with a markedly swept wing. The F.1A, F.2A, F.3 and F.6 versions differed mainly in armament, fuel capacity and details of the airframe; the landing gear remained the same in principle, which is the reason why one set of wheels covers all four executions.

What the set offers

Replacement wheels replace the parts from a kit in 1:48 scale. On the Lightning it is worth giving them attention: the main landing gear retracts outward into the wing and the wheels are clearly visible on a standing model from the side as well as from the front. How many parts are in the package and which kit the set is primarily intended for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building tips

• the parts are not made of polystyrene; cyanoacrylate glue holds the joints
• cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down
• wash and degrease the parts before painting
• try the fit dry, as the pin in the kit tends to be of a different thickness
• mask the wheel rim and the tire and spray them separately; the transition then does not have to be retouched
• if the tire is weighted, the flattening has to point toward the ground

Who it is for

For modelers who build the Lightning in 1:48 scale and want a landing gear more accurate than the one the base kit offers. It will also serve as a replacement for a wheel damaged during the build. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
