This set from the manufacturer Eduard is a photo-etched detail set intended for a plastic kit of the British BAC/EE Lightning supersonic fighter in the F.2A and F.6 versions in 1:48 scale. It is not a standalone airplane model but an accessory that replaces and completes fine parts on a finished kit. The set is designed for the available 1:48 Lightning kit (Airfix).

What the set is for

The photo-etched parts sharpen both the cockpit interior (instrument panels, side consoles, small levers and cockpit details) and the outer surfaces of the model. Thin metal sheet captures details that injection-molded plastic cannot express and thus noticeably lifts the overall impression of a finished build. Some of the parts are usually pre-colored, so certain features need no further painting.

Use and handling

• The parts are cut or broken out of the etched fret and bent as needed (a bending tool and tweezers are useful).
• They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate, CA), not with classic plastic cement.
• Pre-colored features can be used straight away, while bare metal parts should be degreased before bonding and painted if needed.
• It is recommended to work in small steps and to fit the fine parts at the matching stage of the build.
