A set of masks for the angular cockpit canopy of the Messerschmitt Bf 109E in the E-1 and E-3 versions, 1:48 scale. It covers the glazing from outside and from within, and the shapes come from the Eduard kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The letter E in the designation meant a big step: a more powerful Daimler-Benz engine, a reworked nose and armament able to compete with its British opponents. The first production examples of the E-1 reached the units at the beginning of 1939 and carried four machine guns. The E-3 replaced the wing machine guns with 20 mm cannons, which raised the weight of fire appreciably. Both forms went through the Polish campaign, the fighting over France, and finally flew over the Channel in 1940. The Emil is therefore the most attractive form of the whole type for a great many modelers.
The cockpit of the Emil is famous for its dense angular framing and flat side panels. The sliding cover hinges to the side and is divided by wide ribs, and in front of it there is also an armored windscreen with a frame of its own. Taping this shape by hand is a classic test of patience, and a single strip shifted by a tenth of a millimeter is enough for the asymmetry to show.
The package carries outlines for the outer surface as well as for the inner side. The frames of the Emil are painted in the interior color from within, and on a build with the cover slid back that is one of the first things a viewer notices. It therefore pays to apply the inner covering before the fuselage is closed. For a build with a closed cockpit the outer outlines are enough, and the rest of the sheet can be used to cover the other parts while the camouflage is sprayed.
The model of the fighter is not in the package; this is an accessory to a kit bought separately.
