An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, capturing the early Friedrich version - the Bf 109F-2. The box contains clear canopy parts and a decal sheet with several schemes of period aircraft. Eduard offers this subject in several editions (among others the ProfiPACK with photo-etch and masks, or the simpler Weekend), so the specific contents of the extras differ from one release to another - follow the details on the packaging.
The Bf 109F was an aerodynamically refined development stage of the famous Messerschmitt, with cleaner wing outlines, rounded tips and a more closely cowled engine. The F-2 version of 1941 was powered by a Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine and carried a pair of machine guns above the engine together with a cannon firing through the propeller hub. It was deployed over the Channel, on the Eastern Front and in North Africa and was among the most agile fighters of its day.
Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and sand the fuselage joints carefully. The cockpit comes out well with fine shading of the instruments and with the belts hanging taut; mask the glazing with templates and fit it only after the frames have been painted. Apply a primer before painting. The typical German camouflage with gray-blue sides and mottling comes out well with an airbrush; apply the decals onto a gloss varnish and fix them with a matte overcoat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
