Masks in 1:48 for the Messerschmitt Bf 109F-2. They mask the outer surfaces of the glazing and are complemented by two insignia masks and, according to the manufacturer, by decals as well.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F version meant a fundamental aerodynamic rebuild for the Bf 109. The tailplane bracing struts disappeared, the wingtips took on a rounded shape, the radiators were recessed into the lower surface and the engine cowling was rounded off around the new propeller. The armament, on the other hand, was simplified: a cannon in the engine block and two machine guns above it, no weapons in the wing. Pilots complained about the loss of firepower, but they considered the flying qualities the best this type ever had.
The Friedrichs appeared over the English Channel in the spring of 1941 and in June of the same year went into action in the east. It was on a Bf 109F that Werner Mölders flew at the time when he became the first fighter pilot to pass the hundred-victory mark; he died later in the crash of a transport aircraft in which he was traveling as a passenger. The F-2 version carried a 15 mm cannon in the engine block.
The stencils mask the glazing from the outer side, so the frames stay crisp with no outlining by hand with tape. Besides two insignia masks, a decal sheet is stated for this item, which among masking sets is rather the exception and markedly widens the options for finishing the model.
Apply the decals only onto a gloss base and take the masks off before you start on the clear coats. A kit and paints are not part of the box. When building an early Bf 109 it pays to give attention to the edge between the windscreen and the engine cowling: it is precisely here that models show the most overruns, and a stencil bounds it more precisely than a hand with tape can. Lift the film at an angle, not straight upwards.
