This set from Metallic Details sharpens up the underside of the model of the BI rocket aircraft in 1:48 scale. It holds resin parts for the main landing gear and the tail support, the gear doors and an antenna, complemented by photo-etched sheet for the thinnest elements. It is an aftermarket accessory for a plastic kit; the aircraft model is not included in the package.
The BI was a Soviet single-seat rocket aircraft of the Second World War period, designed as a fast-climbing point interceptor with a very short powered endurance. It was a small wooden machine with a short fuselage, a straight wing and a liquid-fuel rocket engine in the tail. The aircraft never went beyond prototypes and a trial batch; few were built and they differed from one another in detail. That is exactly why it pays to sharpen up the slender gear legs and the support under the tail on a model, as they are obvious at a glance on an aircraft this small.
Wash the resin parts in warm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surfaces by wet sanding with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). The slender gear legs should be reinforced with a wire pin, as a glued joint alone may not be enough on a small mating face. Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface, and install the antenna right at the end of the build. Paint the landing gear separately, then bring the detail out with a dark wash and a dry brush and add a touch of dust to the wheels.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
