A photo-etched accessory set for a model of the Blenheim Mk.IF in 1:48 scale. Thin metal parts replace shapes that cannot be cast in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bristol Blenheim came about in the mid-1930s as a fast twin-engine bomber, and at the time of its appearance it was among the fastest aircraft of its class. The Mk.IF version was its fighter conversion: under the fuselage it received a pack with four machine guns that added to the original armament. Aircraft in this form served mainly as night fighters and escorts, and some of them carried very early airborne radar. Although their combat record is mixed, they mark a significant step in the development of night fighting.
An etch is a thin metal sheet in which the outlines of the parts and a fine relief are produced by etching. That is exactly where its strength lies: in 1:48 scale it can capture sheet thickness, perforation and small raised details more faithfully than a plastic casting, which always has a certain minimum possible thickness. The set is used as an accessory to a plastic kit of the type named.
Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp knife on a hard surface rather than with nippers, which would twist them. Level the remains of the tab with a fine-toothed file. Make the bends in a bending tool or by pressing against a straight edge, always in one movement, so that no wave stays in the fold. Degrease the metal before gluing. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, which you apply in a really small amount on the tip of a wire. Paint does not hold on smooth metal without a primer, so count on a primer coat.
The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
