About product

The real subject

British naval aviation, that is the Fleet Air Arm, went through a period between the sixties and the eighties in which machines such as the Buccaneer, the Phantom and the Sea Harrier succeeded one another on the decks and at the coastal bases. The ground equipment around them stayed inconspicuous but ubiquitous, and chocks under the wheels always belonged to it. Without them a parked aircraft was simply not left standing on a sloping or wet surface.

What the set contains

The package contains four wheel chocks in 1:48 scale, that is the quantity for two wheels, or for one main landing gear with two chocks per wheel. These are separate small parts that are merely seated and glued onto the model or onto the base.

Building and painting tips

  • The parts are not polystyrene, ordinary modeling cement will not join them; reach for cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy.
  • Cut the excess material and the traces of manufacture off with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the rest off.
  • Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry perfectly.
  • Chocks tended to be conspicuously colored so that they would not disappear on the apron; yellow or red is therefore a rewarding choice.
  • When a chock is seated close to the wheel and the lower edge is dusted with pigment, it loses the impression of a separate little part.

Who it is for

The set belongs with models of British naval aircraft of the stated period, but it will serve with any aviation scene where a machine stands parked. For the exact seating procedure follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Terms of supply

The chocks themselves are supplied, four pieces. The aircraft model, a display base, the paints and the glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Four chocks, that is two pairs.

The name ties them to British naval aviation of the sixties to the eighties. It does not specify a particular type, so they come into their own with machines from this whole period.

They are not polystyrene, ordinary modeling cement has no effect on them. Use cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy on a degreased surface.

Service chocks tended to be markedly colored so that they would be seen on the apron. Yellow or red with worn edges looks credible.
