Britten-Norman BN-2T/2B Islander: a kit of the British multirole twin-engine aircraft in 1:48 from Valom, in this release with decals for the Maltese military air wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Czech brand Valom has brought one of the most successful British aircraft of the postwar era into 1:48 scale. This release carries the markings of a machine of the Air Wing of the Armed Forces of Malta; the designation in the name meanwhile refers to the turboprop BN-2T version as well as the piston BN-2B.
The Islander first flew in June 1965 and soon became a byword for connecting remote islands with the world: an angular high-wing monoplane with fixed landing gear, it manages short and unpaved runways, carries around nine passengers and its maintenance is undemanding. The piston versions are powered by flat-six Lycoming engines, while the turbine BN-2T variant was given economical turboprop units. The Maltese air wing uses its Islanders above all for patrolling the surrounding sea, for search operations and for transport duties on behalf of the government.
The boxy fuselage invites haste, yet give time to lining up the windows, as masking them is the key to a clean result. Stick the prominent national insignia onto a gloss surface and, once dry, unify them with a satin varnish; the landing gear legs will take a light dirtying from the runway.
You are buying the model as a set of unassembled parts to glue together yourself; the manufacturer encloses neither paints nor adhesives.
