1:48 Browning M2 aircraft machine gun from Metallic Details is a resin accessory set with the 12.7 mm aircraft machine gun for models in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane kit but a replacement for simplified plastic weapons.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin accessory for modelers who want to replace the coarsely shaped plastic weapon at open gun positions with a sharp casting. The set covers the 12.7 mm machine gun itself in 1:48 scale and is glued into a model that is already under way. It is not a model of an airplane or of any part of one, but a small detail that shows clearly on a finished kit.
The 12.7 mm Browning M2 was the basic weapon of American military aircraft in the Second World War. Compared with the ground version the aircraft gun had a lighter barrel and a higher rate of fire, and it was mounted both rigidly in the wings and fuselages of fighters and flexibly in the defensive positions of bombers. Its characteristic features are the perforated barrel cooling jacket, the massive breech and, on the flexible mounts, the shoulder rests with the trigger. The weapon stayed in service long after the war and in its ground form still serves today.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on the surface, because otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a sharp knife or a modeling saw a short distance from the part and sand the remainder away carefully; do not breathe in the resin dust, sand wet and in a well ventilated room. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); ordinary polystyrene cement will not bond resin. Apply a primer before painting. The barrels look best in a dark steel shade with a light graphite polish, and a thin wash brings out the perforated jacket.
This is an accessory set, not a model of an airplane. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
