A pre-colored decal with raised relief on decal paper, intended for the cockpit of the British carrier attack aircraft. It is applied with water, but the surface has raised edges, so the instruments and controls do not look flat. The early designation refers to the early configuration of the machine, whose cockpit equipment differs from the later versions. The set is cut for the Airfix kit in 1:48 scale.
The Buccaneer S.2 is a two-seat attack aircraft for flying at low level, with the crew in tandem: the pilot at the front, the navigator behind him. Against the first configuration the S.2 version received more powerful turbofan engines. During service the machines went through changes of equipment, so the early and the later cockpits differ from each other and the interior sets are not interchangeable between configurations.
On this type the interior is closed into the fuselage right at the start of the build, so plan the work in advance. First clean up the cockpit parts, spray the base paint and go over it with gloss varnish. Then apply the decals, starting with the main instrument panel and continuing with the side consoles, so that neighboring pieces do not meet while still damp. A decal softener has no place in this procedure; it would attack the printed resin. Only once dry come the flat varnish, the painting in of small items and finally the fitting of the seats and the gluing of the fuselage. Anyone who reverses the order will reach the panels only with difficulty.
