A resin detail set from Metallic Details in 1:48 scale. It contains control stick grips, that is the upper part of the stick that the pilot holds in his hand. The Part 2 designation suggests that this continues a series - the manufacturer also makes a first set in the same scale with a different selection of types. It is not a model of an airplane but an accessory for the cockpit, which assumes a kit that is already built or under way.
The grip of a control stick is one of the few places in a cockpit where a great deal of small shaping comes together on a tiny area: a contoured handle, triggers, switches and wiring. Every type of aircraft and every production era has a different grip, so it is exactly this part that gives away how carefully the cockpit has been worked out. In injection-molded kits the stick is usually simplified into a smooth shape without controls, because the mold will not hold finer detail. A resin casting can capture even the undercut shapes that cannot be released from a conventional mold.
First wash the parts in warm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent is left on them, because otherwise stains will appear under the paint. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp cutter and level the surface with fine abrasive paper; with parts this small it pays to work over a tray so that nothing flies away. Sand wet and protect your airways, because resin dust is not to be breathed in. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting, then the base shade of the cockpit, and finally drybrushing and spot highlights on the controls - that is what turns the grip into a feature you notice.
This is a detail accessory, not a stand-alone model. The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
