Pre-cut painting masks for the Curtiss P-40N Warhawk model from the Hasegawa and Hobby 2000 kits in 1:48 scale. The set serves for masking the glazing so that the canopy framing stays sharp and equally wide after spraying. It is not a kit or a finished model but an accessory that shortens the most tedious part of painting. The double-sided version means that the sheet contains parts for the outer and the inner side of the glazing, so the frames look right when looking into the cockpit as well.
Wash, degrease and dry the clear part. Take the masks out of the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, lay them on the frame and press them down with a soft wooden stick; the edge has to adhere along its whole length, or paint will run under it. Trim any overhang past the edge of the part with a sharp fresh blade along the outline. Cover the rest of the model with tape. Spray several thin coats with a short flash-off in between. Once dry to the touch, lift the mask carefully by pulling it back at an angle over itself rather than straight up. With a double-sided set, start with the inner side and the interior shade.
The Curtiss P-40 was an American single-engine fighter and fighter-bomber with a liquid-cooled Allison engine. The N version was among the most numerously built; it brought a lightened structure and modified glazing behind the pilot, which improved the view to the rear. It is precisely this rear glazing that has fairly long frames on the model, and masking them with tape by hand is tedious.
The mask is an accessory, not a kit. The model, paints, glue and thinners are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
