An injection-molded plastic kit of the American two-seat trainer Curtiss-Wright CW-22B in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian maker Dora Wings. It is a short-run tooling, supplemented with photo-etched parts and masks for the cockpit glazing. The box offers several marking options, among them machines of the Netherlands colonial service and a captured Japanese aircraft.
The CW-22 was an American advanced trainer and light observation aircraft derived from the CW-21 fighter. The CW-22B version in export form had two seats in tandem and a semi-retractable landing gear. It served among other places with the air force of the Netherlands East Indies, where at the start of the war in the Pacific it met the Japanese advance; some captured machines then flew under Japanese markings. It was powered by a radial engine.
Short-run toolings call for more preparation than mainstream kits: count on cleaning up the parts, dry-fitting and possibly filling. Finish and paint the interior and the cockpit framing before the fuselage is closed up; glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. Mask the glazing with the masks supplied. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement and re-scribe the surface after sanding if you wipe out the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
