Big Ed is the package in which the Czech firm Eduard brings together several of its separate accessory sets for one particular model. The advantage is one order instead of several. The exact make-up is given by the manufacturer on the package and in the enclosed instructions.
The Vampire is a single-engine jet fighter of British design with a short fuselage nacelle, twin tail booms and wing roots with side air intakes. The F.3 version is an early production guise of the type with changes to the tail surfaces and with equipment for longer range. The short-fuselage layout means that the cockpit makes up a substantial part of the visible volume of a model.
Timing is the key. Accessories from this kind of package are built in at various stages and some of them can no longer be fitted once the fuselage is glued, so go through the instructions before you reach for the glue and lay the build out. The work falls into roughly three groups with different demands: photo-etched metal is cut, bent and glued with cyanoacrylate; pre-painted parts are laid down finished and are not painted over; masks for the glazing are stuck down before spraying and pulled off only once the paint has dried. Which of these groups you find in your package decides whether it is a job of hours or of weekends. With the Vampire it also pays to try the main parts dry, because after the cockpit parts have been replaced the wall thickness often needs a slight adjustment so that the fuselage can be closed without pressure.
