The decal sheet 1:48 F-14A Tomcat of the VF-84 Jolly Rogers squadron from HAD models, this time in the low-visibility finish of a machine from the deck of the USS Nimitz.
Responsibility details are not available.
This sheet from the Hungarian manufacturer HAD models covers the Grumman F-14A Tomcat of the American carrier squadron VF-84 Jolly Rogers in the variant with subdued, so-called low-visibility insignia, in which the machines worked from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. According to the name the sheet holds technical lettering as well. It is a decal accessory in its own right for a model in 1:48 scale.
The F-14A is a two-seat carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing, intended to defend a carrier group at long range. In the middle of the 1980s the US Navy gradually gave up bold color schemes and moved to gray camouflage with subdued insignia. National insignia, numbers and squadron emblems were then printed in muted shades of gray, so from a distance they practically merged with the paint of the fuselage. It is precisely this guise that makes an interesting counterpoint for a collector to the bold color schemes of the same squadron.
Low-visibility designs have little contrast, so make sure of good lighting and a magnifier while you work. Go over the model with gloss clear coat, cut the decals out as closely as possible, soak them and move them once they have rested. The technical lettering is best laid on section by section, checking its position against the drawings as you go. Once dry, unify the surface with matte varnish, which matches this kind of finish best.
The product is a decal sheet. The model, paints and varnishes are not included in the package.
