1:48 Do 217N-1 from the manufacturer Eduard is a masking set for the glazing of a Dornier Do 217N-1 model in 1:48 scale.

The set contains self-adhesive masks cut to the shape of the glazing frames of a Do 217N-1 model in 1:48 scale. These are neither photo-etched parts nor a resin accessory: the masks are stuck onto the clear parts, the frames are oversprayed in the fuselage color, and once the masks come off, clear glass with precisely rendered edges is left. On a twin-engine machine with extensive glazing in the front section that is a job trimming tape by hand can hardly do evenly.
The masks are cut from fine kabuki paper tape. The tape adapts even to slightly curved glass, it holds in place throughout the painting and it leaves no adhesive when removed. The frames therefore come out crisp and of the same width along their whole length, which on a model with a large glazed area decides the overall impression.
The Dornier Do 217N-1 was a night fighter version derived from the twin-engine Do 217 bomber. It differed from the bomber form above all in the revised front section and the armament; the machine was used in the Second World War. What matters for a modeler is that the glazing of the front section and the cockpit has segmented framing, which takes a disproportionate amount of time to mask by hand.
First free the clear parts of fingerprints and grease, ideally by washing them in lukewarm water with dish soap. Transfer the masks with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick or a wooden stick, above all in the corners. Apply the paint in thin coats; before the exterior shade itself, a thin coat of the interior color works well so that the frames do not show through from inside. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, while it is not yet fully cured.
The set contains masks only. The model, the paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
