A photo-etched accessory set for a model of the Douglas A-1J Skyraider in 1:48 scale. The thin metal parts replace the simplified shapes from the kit where plastic is not up to fine detail.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was a single-seat carrier-based ground-attack aircraft with a piston radial engine. It appeared at the very end of the Second World War but made its name after it: thanks to its large load capacity, its many underwing pylons and its long endurance over the battlefield it could support ground troops for hours at a stretch, which secured it a long career in the age of the jet. The A-1J version belongs to the late production batches.
The set is photo-etched, that is made of thin sheet metal in which the parts are held to the fret by small tabs. It is photo-etch that allows the thinness and the fineness of embossing that injection-molded plastic cannot match, which is why it is used for parts that are genuinely thin on the real aircraft.
Cut the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface; never break them out. File the remains of the tab flush. Make the bends over a sharp edge or in a photo-etch bending tool, keeping the deeper groove on the part on the inside of the bend. They are bonded with a tiny amount of super glue, applied for example on the point of a needle. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer suitable for metal, otherwise the paint peels off during handling.
The set is for modelers who already have experience with photo-etch and want to take a model to a finer level of detail. The package contains photo-etched parts only; the kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
