Accessory wheels for the two-seat versions of the fighter-bomber Republic F-105 in 1:48 scale. The Armory brand offers them with weighted tires that copy the shape of the wheel under the weight of a standing aircraft. The set replaces the parts from the box and suits everyone who is building a Thunderchief with the landing gear down.
The F-105 was the largest single-seat single-engine fighter-bomber the US Air Force ever took into service. Originally it was to carry a nuclear bomb in an internal weapons bay, but it entered history in an entirely different role: in conventional attacks over North Vietnam. The two-seat F-105F then became the basis for the F-105G, a specialized machine for the suppression of anti-aircraft defenses, whose crews earned the nickname Wild Weasel.
The Thunderchief was a heavy machine and its tires were under a great deal of stress, so shaping with weighting is not mere cosmetics here. Before gluing, seat the wheel dry and check that the flat patch touches the base over its whole area. Choose the shade of the rubber rather toward dark gray; pure black looks flat in this scale. A light metallic tint and traces of service oil around the axle pay off on the hub.
