A set from the LööK range by the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended to replace the instrument panel in a model of the F-14A of late production in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft nor a complete fit-out of the cockpit — it is one particular part, which replaces the panel from the basic kit. The gain in the fineness of the instruments is clearly noticeable on the tandem cockpit of the Tomcat, because the large canopy leaves the interior visible along practically its whole length.
The Grumman F-14A Tomcat is a twin-engined carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing and a crew of two sitting one behind the other. Late production examples of the A version differ from the early ones in details of the cockpit equipment, which is exactly why makers of detail sets distinguish early and late panels. The set corresponds to the late form, so before buying it is worth checking which production batch your model represents.
Proceed from the back forward: the cockpit of the Tomcat has to be finished and seated before the fuselage is closed up. Try the part dry, carefully sand any overhang of the mating surface down and only then glue it, ideally in spots with cyanoacrylate glue. You will make the work easier for yourself if you seat the panel before installing the seats — otherwise it is hard to reach. Once dry, a fine wash into the recesses and matte varnish will help; a drop of gloss varnish on the dials creates the impression of glass. Polish and varnish the cockpit glazing only at the end, so that no dust from sanding gets onto it.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit of the aircraft. The basic model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
