F-14A Tomcat in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss — a plastic kit of the legendary US Navy carrier fighter with swing wings.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the carrier fighter Grumman F-14A Tomcat in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. The model has a well detailed cockpit with two seats, a clear one-piece canopy part, adjustable geometry of the swing wings and a generous set of external stores including the large AIM-54 Phoenix, AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. The box also holds photo-etched parts and soft (vinyl) tires.
The F-14 Tomcat was a twin-engine carrier-borne multirole fighter of the US Navy, made famous among other things by the film Top Gun. Its characteristic feature is the wing with variable sweep, which adjusts automatically to speed in flight. The F-14A version was the first production variant; combined with the AWG-9 radar and the long-range AIM-54 Phoenix missiles it provided the defense of carrier battle groups at long distances.
Finish and paint the cockpit and the seats before you close the fuselage — once it is glued there is no access to them. It is best to mask the canopy glazing and paint it separately so that it stays clear. Decide in advance whether you will leave the wings movable or fix them in one position. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement, apply a primer before painting, and the light gray naval camouflage comes out best sprayed with an airbrush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
