Waterslide decals in 1:48 scale for figures of pilots and weapon systems officers. It is an accessory that finishes what is hard to paint on a figure at this scale: the emblem on the helmet and the patches on the flight suit. It is precisely these small things that make the difference between a figure in a plain overall and a figure that looks like a member of a particular squadron.
The name refers to the squadrons VF-2, VF-101 and VF-31 of the US Navy. VF-101 was the type's training unit, while VF-2 and VF-31 were among the combat squadrons that operated the Tomcat right to the end of its service, including the F-14D version. The set therefore suits models of both versions the name refers to.
In 1:48 scale the designs are really small, so work with fine-tipped tweezers and good lighting. Paint the figure first, let it dry out thoroughly and go over it with gloss varnish: a matte base is the most common cause of silvering decals. Soak the design for a few seconds in lukewarm water, let it rest and slide it into place. On the rounded surface of the helmet and in the folds of the sleeve a softener will help to pull the film down to the surface. Finally, go over the figure with a matte varnish, so that the sheen and the edge of the film disappear.
It is not a model or a figure but accessory decals. Figures, paints, glue and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
